A Message from Our President
Dear Southwest Region Conference Family:
Summertime is ending, and fall is just around the corner as we prepare ourselves for the final months of 2021. We praise God for His blessings on His people individually, and collectively as a Conference Family! This is especially true when we consider the impact and effects of Hurricane Ida which most recently swept through Southern Louisiana. Although property was damaged, electrical power was challenged, and water issues were paramount, God spared the lives of His people within the Southwest Region Conference territory as we have not heard of any of our members who lost their lives due to this catastrophic storm. For this, we praise the Lord! We do, however, pray for those individuals who did lose family members within our communities, coupled with the thousands (inclusive of our churches and church members) who must now pick up the physical, financial, and emotional pieces of “rebuilding” after such a storm.
Special thanks to our Conference Officers, our Departmental Directors, Pastors, Conference Workers, Lone Star Camp Staff, Community Service/Disaster Response Team Leaders and Members, and Church Members for your prayers, support, and relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Across the conference, you have labored, sacrificed, and supported in this process. We thank you!
Lone Star Camp has served and continues to serve as a haven for those who have had to evacuate from their homes. Should individuals need continued shelter at our campground, kindly contact our Conference Office at 214.943.4491.
Most recently, the Disaster Response Leadership Team of the North American Division visited Lone Star Camp to provide support to our evacuees. As a result of their visit, kindly see the video below.
This fall, we are planning to have two major events in our conference territory. First, in lieu of our traditional Summer Campmeeting, we will be having Fall Convocation! This special ministry event, which is being supported by special friends of our conference, will take place on Sabbath, October 16, 2021, at the attractive and commodious 5,000 seat Mansfield ISD Performing Arts Center, 1110 W. Debbie Avenue, Mansfield, TX 76063 (a suburb of Dallas). Throughout the day, we will praise God for His blessings on our conference, along with celebrating 75 years of our existence – as the Southwestern Union Mission, forerunner of the Southwest Region Conference, was organized in 1946!
Sabbath School will begin at 10:00 am and will feature the Youth Ministries Department of our conference and the music ministry of the Southwestern Adventist University Singers. At 11:00 am, the Divine Worship Experience will commence. Yours truly, Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, will be the speaker, and renowned singer, Pastor Marvin Sapp, and the Southwest Region Conference Mass Choir will share their music ministry. Additionally, during Divine Worship, we will recognize several individuals who have made enormous contributions to our communities including Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, United States House of Representatives – Texas 18th Congressional District; Penny Johnson, CEO – Advent Health Southwest Region; and Ana Patterson, President – Southwestern Adventist University. Believe me. You will not want to miss this worship experience!
For our children and early teens (ages 4 to 15), we have not forgotten them! Registration for their special Divine Worship Service will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am, also at the Mansfield ISD Performing Arts Center. For our Children’s/Earliteen Church, which will begin at 11:00 am, the nationally renowned “Power Team” will be the special feature! Hence, our children and early teens will also have “top-notch,” age-appropriate, and relevant ministry programming!
We will have a Ministerial Ordination Service at 3:30 pm, followed by a special recognition of our former Conference Presidents and Retirees, and Parade of Nations at 5:00 pm. The day will close with Musical Vespers at 6:00 pm and a “Vision Casting” presentation by yours truly. At sunset, our Youth Department will have a social activity for the young and “young at heart.” Information booths from Breath of Life, Message Magazine, Oakwood University, Southwestern Adventist University, and the Texas Conference Adventist Book Center (ABC) will also be in place.
From all across our conference territory, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, please plan to be in attendance for this great spiritual feast and time of fellowship! Please be assured that COVID-19 Protocols will be in place including social distancing and the wearing of face coverings. Given the size and scope of the Mansfield ISD Performing Arts Center, we will able to comply with these protocols.

Secondly, in conjunction with Breath of Life Television Ministries and Adventist World Radio (AWR), we will have major evangelistic campaigns in Houston, TX from October 23 through November 6. Yours truly, Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, will preach the word of God for our English campaign, and Pastor Eddie Canales of AWR will preach the word of God for our Spanish campaign! Additionally, gospel music favorites, Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr Singers, Kierra Sheard, Pastor Wintley Phipps, and several other musical artists will share their music ministries. Bible Workers and church members alike will extend the love of God through prayer and Bible Study! And, community, felt need ministries will be provided including COVID-19 Testing and Vaccinations, along with food giveaways!
Our English Speaking Campaign will take place each evening (except Mondays and Thursdays) at the 3,000 seat World Harvest Outreach Church, 10800 Scott Street, Houston, TX 77047. Our Spanish Speaking Campaign will take place simultaneously at the Fondren Southwest Worship Center, 7950 W. Fuqua Street, Missouri City, TX 77489, and our Maranatha Spanish Church, 5550 Creekmont Drive, Houston, TX 77091. Please note that these venues have been selected enabling COVID-19 Protocols (social distancing and face coverings) to be in place. For those in the Houston area, please plan to be in attendance. Throughout our conference territory, we solicit your prayers for a mighty move of God’s Spirit and a mighty harvest of souls for God’s kingdom
Thank you very much for your prayers and support to me, my wife, our family, and our conference! Together, let’s move “Southwest 4 Ward!”
May God continue to bless you!
Dr. Carlton P. Byrd, President
