Community Services Clothes Giveaway
Motivated by the effects that the economy has taken on individuals and families, the Tenth Street Seventh-day Adventist Church, Community Services Department, directed by Mr. George Jones, organized a Clothes Giveaway Day on October 28, 2012. The church responded to the appeal for new and used clothing and we were able to serve 331 adults and 112 children. During this Clothes Giveaway our Personal Ministries Department gave away 200 gift bags which contained a copy of the Great Controversy, Steps to Christ, and a pamphlet on the State of the Dead. A data base was also created which contained the names of the individuals who signed up for personal Bible Studies and those that desired to receive Amazing Facts Bible Studies through the mail. Walgreens Representatives were also present to give free flu shots to those that desired the shot, church members as well as the recipients of the Clothes Giveaway. As a result approximately 55 people were inoculated against the influenza virus. The Community Services Director for the Southwest Region Conference, Elder Durandel Ford, and his wife Janice Ford were also present for this event. Elder Ford commended the efforts of the church and was also able to give suggestions on strengthening future clothes giveaways. After the clothes giveaway, several testimonies were given about how much the recipients appreciated the clothes that were received. Thanks to Pastor Stephen Brooks, his wife Kennetia Brooks, the Community Services Director, George Jones, his staff and church members who volunteered. Their hard work and organization promoted, and lead this activity to bless our community.
