Alfred Booker Jr Academy Promotes Black History Month Program On Local TV Station
Cailyn Alexander, and Principal/Teacher, Joy Dawkins-Parris, of Alfred Booker Junior Academy (ABJA), appeared on KALB Channel 5 Alexandria, LA to promote the upcoming Black History Program, “What if there were no Black People in the world?”-Author unknown.
The News anchor, Sherman Dessile inquired of the two just what this was all about. He learned that the program was designed to not only educate, but entertain those who were being invited to the February 29 (Leap Day) affair.
Dramatizations of renowned authors/poets- James Weldon Johnson, Paul L. Dunbar, Herbert Brewster, Maya Angelou, Mychal Wynn and others would be featured. The theme presentation skit highlighted the many black inventions. Students from ABJA would be joined by children and friends from the Smyrna and Maranatha SDA Churches.
Refreshments included a vegetarian Black ethnic menu of fried chik’n, collard greens, corn muffins, rice/Red beans or Black-eyed peas, baked sweet potatoes, cake, and lemonade. Students at Alfred Booker Junior Academy had been learning about the impact of African-Americans in United States history, since February 1, 2016.
