On Wednesday, January 15, 2014 we had a significant event! Our Family Ministries of over 40 years was blessed with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Family Ministries Department of the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists in Monterey, California. The award was presented at the Family Ministries Advisory during the North American Division Ministries Convention.

Drs. Claudio and Pamela Consuegra, Family Ministries Directors for North American Division, presented the award. Debra Brill, NAD Vice President and Willie and Elaine Oliver, General Conference Family Ministries Directors, were also present. Family Ministries leaders from around the NAD were in attendance at the meeting.

It does not seem possible that we have had the privilege of ministry to families for these 40 years. We attended our first Family Ministries Workshop at Andrews University under the leadership of Drs. John and Millie Youngberg in 1974. Our interest at that time was just to see what our church offered for family strengthening. What we were learned was “the harvest was great, but workers were few.” We left Andrews  wanting to become those who harvested.

Family Ministries has blessed us abundantly. We have had the privilege of seeing our family grow and flourish because of the principles and skills we learned. As we have put these things into practice, we have had the opportunity to share not only in the United States, but Canada, Madagascar, Mauritius, Burundi, Rwanda, and Dominica.

Although the award says lifetime achievement, we realize until the Lord comes or calls us to rest – we still have work to do. We will continue to share God’s good news through Family Ministries wherever we go.

Maranatha!
