“EDUCATION: Striving for Excellence”

Preaching2The Education Department of the Tenth Street SDA Church has been busy motivating all ages to read, through the organization of a church Library, and celebrating the achievements of our students.

On June 3rd we honored our students and graduates.  We had a wonderful time celebrating the successes of our youth. We were blessed with inspiring violin renditions by 2 of our young ladies, Malkia Williams and Makayla Stafford. A special feature of our program was an interview with our own Dr. Andrea Lisa Moore, who recently graduated from Oklahoma State University with a PhD in Environmental Science.

July was “Let’s Get Reading” month.  All were challenged to read, and weekly prizes were awarded to those who completed the challenge for that week.  An electronic reader was awarded to Sis. Grace Wei, the overall winner of the month’s challenge.

August 3rd, 2013 was our Education Emphasis Day.  Our theme was “EDUCATION: Striving for Excellence.” Our guest speaker, Dr. Paula Olivier, pastor of the first SDA Church of Montclair, New Jersey, brought the Sabbath message in which she challenged us to strive for Spiritual excellence.  In the afternoon workshop, Dr. Olivier gave us the tools for better involvement with our children, both in the church and in the community, in helping them to achieve their maximum potential.

Our annual school supplies give away was also held on the afternoon of August 3.  With the help of the Pathfinders, over forty children were served. They also received spirit-filled literature, and were invited to attend Sabbath School.
