Hope, A Strong And Trustworthy Anchor
On March 5, 2016, a beautiful Sabbath morning, the Houston Bay Area Women’s Ministries held the greatly anticipated International Women’s Day of Prayer conference. The theme “Anchored in JESUS” was of great gravitas, a balm for the times. The forum was held at the World Harvest Outreach Seventh-day Adventist Church (WHO) in Houston.
We were greeted with bright smiles and willing workers, the keepers of a sea of pink bags filled with books, music, media and valuable health information for women. Then, upon entering the sanctuary, we were energized with “Through the storm.”
Encouragement came throughout the day as women visited the “Prayer Zones” to place written prayer requests. However, no inspiration came more strongly than that which was given by the speaker of the morning Vivian Johnson. The director of human resources and associate treasurer for the Southwestern Union Conference, Vivian’s subject “This Time,” is an amalgamation of wisdom gained during her journey — her experiences as a child and wife; of how she has overcome hindrances through prayer. With moving motivation came memorable music. The Women of Praise brought us into the Spirit with “God Is,” touching the heart and inspiring the mind. We were also blessed to marvel at the storytelling stylings of Judith McCoy, a marketing executive, and a world traveler. In “Give Us This Day,” Judith brought a message of hope with relatable vignettes on family and illness and how her travels have caused her to cling to God. She provided a model for hope by the examination of her lively spirit.
I am looking forward to seeing what next year will bring! I hope to see you there.
