Lone Star Camp: A Place to be Proud of!

When you look at a campground you automatically think of smiling faces, laughing children, fellowship, and amazing experiences that you’ll remember for a lifetime. For some time now, Lone Star Camp was lacking in some of these areas. When I was a kid, I barely remember coming here. I remember uncomfortable seats, loud preachers, and clinging onto my parents arm because I was too afraid to go to the youth pavilion by myself. It was a foreign place that I never wanted to become familiar with but something changed. This summer I became familiar with how a young camper is supposed to feel when they step onto a campground. It was a feeling of joy, excitement, and anticipation.

From the minute we reached the gate to the minute we reached the W.C. Jones Welcome Center, I knew something was different. The current renovations that have been made give people from the Southwest Region Conference a sense of pride. It’s almost as if their pride is saying, “YES! This is my campground!” In addition to the newly renovated gate and the W.C. Jones Welcome Center, Lone Star Camp has renovated 8-10 duplex cabins and a unit for the senior citizens.  We are excited for the upcoming improvements that will be completed by the year 2018. The Southwest Region Conference is working diligently to not only make this campground a place of pride but also a place of our own.
